"Hey Ma's" new vow...

A new day, thank God its a new day.

So, an unfortnate even occured over this past weekend. And as dissappointing and upsetting as it was, it did smack me in the face and made me take a really hard look at myself and my surroundings.

One thing it definitely made me realize that you really have to be careful about what you pray for. You just might get it. I asked for help and intervention, and boy I got it. I really did need that kick in the head, and I thank you for it, Lord.

Now for my vow.. I love rap/hip-hop music. I really don't know how it started, or why. But from this day forward I vow NOT to listen to rap music, or any music that is degrading in any way to women. WHY is this notion that women need to supress their emotions? WHy is it allowed in songs for a guy to say "Get in the car, don't touch nothing, sit in the car, let's discuss somethin', Either we lovin or I'll see you tmrw." - "Hey Ma" by Cam'Ron

Well even if its still going to be played, I don't have to listen to it. I think we forget ( I know I do) that we do have choices! We aren't just robots.

So, in some sort of small effort to combat this crap, and since I believe this is a result of myself accepting the way I have been treating myself, allowing myself to be treated, and treating others, I am taking this vow. (This will probably be the first of a few).

A very good friend told me yesterday, "You either love someone or you use them." Period. End of story. Makes one think, right?
